Are six pack abs overrated?

December 3, 2018

I was discussing tennis with a new student who has been a tennis coach. I said that Roger Federer is held up by Alexander Technique teachers as an example of someone with good 'use' - i.e. he moves so well that his body functions at optimum efficiency.

My pupil responded that if you look at photos of Federer on the beach his body looks like 'a normal person', not hard and chiselled as one expects in a world class athlete.

Federer is an Alexander hero - even if he's never had a lesson in his life - because he maintains a quality of ease and balance in his activity even when performing in intense and high stress situations.
